The Qumran manuscripts (Dead Sea Scrolls), first discovered in 1946, were mostly written before the time of Jesus and contain portions of all OT books except Esther. The Isaiah scroll matches the Hebrew OT almost perfectly. This is strong confirmation that the OT has been faithfully preserved over time.
… And he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of the Lord. And Joshua said to all the people, ‘Behold, this stone shall be a witness to us, for it has heard all the words of the Lord which He spoke to us. It shall therefore be a witness to you, lest you deny your God.’
Sir Flinders Petrie excavated the city of Kahun in Avaris in northern Egypt in the late 1800s and made a disturbing discovery which strongly supports the Biblical decree to kill Hebrew babies during Israel’s time of slavery in Egypt:
“Larger wooden boxes, probably used originally to store clothing and other possessions, were discovered underneath the floors of many houses at Kahun. They contained babies, sometimes buried two or three to a box, and aged only a few months at death.”
The Ipuwer Papyrus, housed in the Leiden Museum in Holland, describes the biblical plagues in Egypt.
“Nay, but the heart is violent. Plague stalks through the land and blood is everywhere …
Nay, but the river is blood. Does a man drink from it? As a human he rejects it. He thirsts for water …
Nay, but gates, columns and walls are consumed with fire …
Nay but men are few. He that lays his brother in the ground is everywhere …
Nay but the son of the high-born man is no longer.”
Sir Flinders Petrie also noted the abrupt abandonment of Kahun, which aligns with the Biblical account of the Jews’ sudden departure from Egypt as they began the Exodus with little notice or preparation.
“It is apparent that the completion of the king’s pyramid was not the reason why Kahun’s inhabitants … deserted the town and abandoned their tools and possessions …”
The Tel Dan Stele and the Moabite Stone both contain references to the “House of David.” These inscriptions provide external, non-Biblical and archaeological confirmation that King David was a real historical figure, directly supporting the biblical record and refuting claims that David was merely a legend.
The Nabonidus Cylinder – dated to around 550 BC – mentions Belshazzar by name as the elder son of King Nabonidus. For centuries, skeptics claimed that the book of Daniel was incorrect because Belshazzar was not known from historical records. The discovery of this cylinder confirmed his existence, showing once again that archaeological evidence supports the Biblical record and that God allowed this evidence to surface in His timing.
Scientists originally believed the universe was eternal but later theorized “singularity” and The Big Bang. However, the Bible declares:
Genesis 1:1-2 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Isaiah 42:5 “Thus says God the Lord, Who created the heavens and stretched them out …”
Although some early Greek philosophers suggested this centuries after Isaiah, it was not fully understood until global exploration.
Isaiah 40:22 “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth …”
The James Webb Space Telescope recently revealed there is no observable end to the universe but only continuous galaxies that are innumerable and count to at least hundreds of billions. And each one could contain hundreds of billions of stars.
Jeremiah 33:22 “As the host of heaven cannot be numbered …”
The continuous cycle of evaporation, condensation and rainfall was clearly explained in Scripture long before scientific discovery. Ecclesiastes was written by King Solomon around 900 BC and Aristotle commented about this hydrologic cycle much later around 350 BC.
Ecclesiastes 1:7 “All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; to the place from which the rivers come, there they return again.”
Psalms 8 was written by David around 950 or so BC. While seafarers may have understood the currents, Benjamin Franklin named the Gulf Stream in the Atlantic in the late 1700’s.
Psalms 8:8 “… the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas.”
Deep-sea hydrothermal vents were discovered only about 50 years ago, yet God spoke of them to Job around 2000 to 1800 BC.
Job 38:16 “Have you entered the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in search of the depths?”
Thousands of years before modern medicine, Scripture declared the critical role of blood in sustaining life. Blood carries oxygen, nutrients and immunity throughout the body. A person can live without limbs or some organs, but not without a normal flow of blood.
Leviticus 17:10-12 “For the life of the flesh is in the blood and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls …”
Earth remains perfectly positioned, neither falling into the sun nor spinning uncontrollably through space. Its orbit around the Sun and its daily rotation around its axis remain constant.
Job 26:7 “He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.”
Air has measurable weight – atmospheric pressure – at 14.7 psi at the Earth’s surface. That is close to 2 gallons of water pressing on every square inch of our skin. Though thought to be weightless until an Italian discovered it in 1643, Scripture revealed this truth.
Job 28:24-25 “To establish a weight for the wind, and apportion the waters by measure.”
The precise numerical constants in the formulas governing gravity, energy, radiation and nuclear forces point to intentional design rather than chance. Any slight variation in these numbers would create total chaos with the physical universe. Scripture tells us that Jesus holds all creation together.
Colossians 1:15-17 “… all things were created through Him and for Him … and in Him all things consist (hold together).”
Naturalists have no legitimate responses to this clear evidence of a Creator, Lawgiver and the valid Bible. It takes more faith to believe the evolutionist theories than it does to simply accept these facts and worship God.
